Which winterizing method do you use to winterize your RV? Antifreeze or compressed air? In this video we talk about some of the advantages and disadvantages of both procedures. This is episode 1 of 3 in our winterizing master class series. We would love to hear your input on the 2 different methods, along with any experiences you may have performing the procedures.

As a handyman who winterizes vacation homes in N. Idaho, air is the only thing I’ve used. My wife and I are new to RVing but I’m leaning towards the compressed air method as I’ve never had any issues doing that with much larger homes (and way more expensive homes). Plus the fact that newer RVs use PEX for plumbing, that doesn’t require extreme measures and a little bit of water in the line won’t hurt anything. Thanks for sharing. This is a very informative channel.
2:25 – LOL you got that right!!
I winterize my inground sprinklers using the compressed air method. Get most of the water out and it is fine. As long as there is not enough water that can fill the full diameter of the tubing or lines, the water expansion from freezing won’t hurt the system.
I think that both methods have their merits.. If you live in a place that has freezing temps for days/weeks/months at a time, then AF would probably be a wise choice. Where I live in the NW part of WA state, we do get freezing temps, but not for weeks at a time. I’ve been just blowing out the lines for the last 20+ years with RV’s and never an issue.
In fact, I just finished up doing it to my RV today.. I take my time and do several rounds of blowing out the lines, so that gives me the peace of mind, it’s clear enough to where it’s not pooled anywhere..
I do the same with my sprinkler system.. But, It’s 90* today, so I’ll still be watering the lawn thru Oct it seems! ha, ha..
I believe the compressed air method is useful for when you occasionally RV during the winter months. It is easier (and cheaper) to use your RV when you don’t have to de-winterize lines filled with antifreeze and re-winterize after each trip.
